Inspection and Report Standards
Our inspections reports are ASTM E2018, Standard Guide for Property Condition Assessments compliant or adapted from CAN/CSA-A770-16, Home Inspections.
ASTM International (formerly American Society for Testing and Materials) is an international organization providing consensus based technical standards. Introduced in 1999, and last updated in 2015, the standard for property condition assessments, E2018, has become the standard operating procedure at the time of purchasing or refinancing commercial properties. The report is used by multiple parties to support their financial planning and therefore includes more information about probable costs over time, goes further by investigating problems to determine solutions, evaluates adjacent risks, and examines other information such as documentation and interviews. The minimum threshold for reporting a deficiency is $3000.
CSA Group is the largest provider in Canada accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and co-ordinates Canada's National Standards System. The CSA Group maintains this standard by creating standards that meet the requirements of the SCC for consensus standards. Introduced in 2016, the standard for home inspections, A770-16, was produced in collaboration with home inspectors, regulators, technical specialists, and consumer agencies. This standard is adapted to suite the needs of small businesses with limited budgets and an expectation to report deficiencies less than $3000.
